THE LIFE OF EARLY PIONEERS
by Richard S. Hartley

PURPOSE

The pioneer settlers of early America were strong and hard working people. They have left us a proud and exciting heritage to explore, to understand, to appreciate, to learn, and to keep alive. This study booklet was made for 4th grade West Virginia history students. It will help them learn more about the day-to-day life of early pioneers in the Appalachian Mountains and Ohio River region of western Virginia between 1770 and 1825. This unit, along with the teacher's lesson plans, and the classroom activity sheets are designed to compliment the 4th grade School Visitation Program to Fort New Salem.
